Americans finally realize the try-before-you-buy works just as well with sex as it does with commodities. Rather than marrying and then shacking up with hot sex coming after the nuptuals, Americans are increasingly putting out before putting on the wedding rings.Women are just as likely as men to get it on before matrimony.
I think this is just the sign of the times. I mean, we like to test things, try them out, before making a purchase. Why should sex and marriage be any different? The stigma associated with pre-marital sex is dead. Long live free love!

I agree that drinking can sometimes oil the wheels of motherhood very nicely when you hear the rusty squeak start up, especially if the rusty squeak goes by the name of Your Mother-In-Law. But then I'm Scottish.

I think some women let go of their sense of self once their child is born. No one should do that! Not good for Mom, not good for kiddos, just not good! Becoming a parent adds to who you are, and it should never subtract.

emma, I think you're absolutely right... motherhood doesn't change the essential person. Once a complainer, always a complainer. But I've seen many women get transformed into things they weren't before having kids.. and I've heard others say the same.

Unfortunatley, many mothers simply give up after they have kids. I think one of the greatest disservices a mother can do to her child(ren) is allowing her feminity and pre-child sense of self to wane.

On the bright side, dowdy moms only serve to make us look good. Really good.

I'm diggin' this blog by the way.

Thank God, Neil, at last, a voice in the wilderness. It's good to know that being a fun loving mother will do my kids good.

As for motherhood changing women into dullards, this is a misconception. Those that turn into bores who whine on incessantly about Johnny's stool texture and their problems with potty training tend to have always been insufferable bores who previously whined on about how they can never find the right man is there something wrong with them, whined about PMS, and were generally dull, albeit in a different way!

It changes women for many reasons: sleep deprivation, added money pressures, and on and on. I guess that's why the effort to retain fun-ness is so important to many of us. And I heartily agree that a happy fun loving mom is much better than a dreary grim mom.
